New Scholarship Honors Leonard Sandridge
On April 4, at a ceremony at the John Paul Jones Arena, University of Virginia President Teresa A. Sullivan announced the creation of the Leonard W. and Jerry S. Sandridge Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial support to children or grandchildren of U.Va. employees. It will be awarded to undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need.
"The scholarship combines two of Leonard's greatest interests financial aid for students and the well-being of University's employees," Ms. Sullivan said.
Ms. Sullivan created the scholarship fund in December with a lead gift to honor Mr. Sandridge, executive vice president and chief operating officer, who has served the University for four decades. An Albemarle native, Mr. Sandridge completed his undergraduate work at the University of Richmond and received a master's in accounting from U.Va. in 1974. The father of two and grandfather of four, Mr. Sandridge lives with his wife, Jerry, in Crozet.
The Leonard Sandridge Endowed Scholarship fund is still open for gifts. Checks may be written to "U.Va. Leonard W. and Jerry S. Sandridge Scholarship Fund" and sent to:
